PROGRAM

Rotarian Tony McDonnell introduced Paul Spaude, CEO of Borgess Health, which is part of Ascension Health. Spaude's topic was Healthcare Reform, and he made the case for the necessity of overhauling our healthcare system. He presented the principles that guide their plan for reformed healthcare policy:

  • 100% access, with shared responsibility-individuals, employers & gov't.
  • 100% coverage, with work to be done regarding what will be covered
  • Insurance benefit package equity
  • Attention to critical populations and coverage gaps
  • Insurance reforms-larger pools
  • Economic viability

His call to action was "By 2020, all should have access and coverage."  He emphasized that the reform will have to be at the federal level.  With many questions and comments following his presentation, President Rex suggested he may want to consider coming back at a later date to continue the discussion of this complex issue.
