Presentation from Lauri Sullivan, our Rotary sponsored student this year, on her visit to Leon, Mexico. She presented a flag and showed a video presentation of her year - she enjoyed it very much! Program: Introduced by Wayne Kruger. George Ayers - President of KCCVB (Kalamazoo County Convention & Visitors Bureau) spoke on "Driving Tourism in Kalamazoo County". Travel and tourism is up and doing well - room rates and occupancy are up. They worked with TSI Consulting Partners on strategic planning, producing a plan for 2008-2010 with a focus on marketing ourselves as unique, and engaging others in the area as partners. Developing partnerships is the most important aspect, focusing on the areas of lodging, dining, shopping, schools, hospitals, WMU, Battle Creek, South Haven, USTA, Kalamazoo Promise, Big League Softball World Series, National Street Rod Association, Gun Lake Casino, and the proposed downtown multi-purpose arena. One new event is the CommUniverCity Kickoff luncheon at the Radisson on Friday, September 5. Businesses are encouraged to sponsor a table and hear coach Bill Cubit and WMU's football team kick things off. Exciting things are in place for the future of Kalamazoo with effective leadership in place!
