President Rex called the meeting to order.  Invocation was done by Tim Light.  A moment of silence was observed for Rotarian Mark Crum who passed away last week.  President Rex reported that John Dillworth is home from the hospital.  He is progressing well.

There were many guests and the happy bucks were numerous.

Jim Woodruff introduced Kalamazoo County Aeronautics Board Chairman, Gil Collver.  Did you know that the Kalamazoo Battle Cree International Airport was built in the early part of the 1900's and was the first licensed airport in the State of Michigan?  Its first route was between Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.

The airport is self sustaining and ownership has transitioned over the years.  No longer under Kalamazoo County Government it is under the jurisdiction of a relatively new entity, the Kalamazoo County Aeronautics Commission.

Plans are underway to build a brand new terminal.  The current facility is too small, inefficient, would not meet current building codes and has deteriorating infrastructure.  Plans call for an attractive and economical structure with five bridges for passenger loading, covered walkways and new baggage delivery system.  The target date for the new airport is 2011.  In the mean time, trends for travel from Kalamazoo are up.

District Conference:   Kalamazoo Rotary is entitled to 10 voting electors at the District Conference.  A full representation by the Kalamazoo club is an important component of the annual business meeting of the Rotary district.

This year, the meeting is held on Saturday, May 16 at the District Conference at Zehnder's Splash in Frankenmuth and begins at 10 AM.  Several club members have district responsibilities and are attending the District Conference.  Additionally, we are seeking four Rotarians to join Thell Woods and Karl Sandelin to bring us as near as a full representation as is practical.

We have a six-passenger van (courtesy of Amy Krone), plan to leave Kalamazoo at 7 AM in the morning, and return after lunch at the conference (back, estimatedly at 5 PM).  Cost is $50 to cover lunch ($35), fuel and a Rotary Foundation donation.  Do join - contact Karl at 344-5541 or Rainer1928@att.net.
