Jim Holtgrieve followed the traditional singing of the National Anthem with an appropriate invocation and President Rex led a silent prayer by all Rotarians for the passing of Robert Mathews.  Bryon Zocher read the news of the Kalamazoo Art scene and Richard Piat of WKZO news read the radio news.

Visiting Rotarians: None attended so none were introduced

Maestros Jon Pellowe and John Dillworth led us through two reasonable facsimiles of singing with a piano.

President Rex presented Giff Blaylock as a five time Paul Harris Fellow and he was recognized by a standing ovation from all in attendance.  Nice going Giff; you are an inspiration for us all!

Announcements and Etc.:

President Bell announced the following: 

·         The fireside chat for this week has been postponed.

·         Proposed by-law and articles of incorporation update will soon be sent to the membership for consideration.

·         Don't forget to sign up for the District 6360 Conference in Frankenmuth May 15 through the 17th.  

·         Membership survey will be coming soon!  A chair of this committee is needed.  Contact President Rex if you are interested in spearheading this effort.

Program for the Day:

Lisa Godfrey introduced our topic for the day and speaker Jan Maatman Director of the Non Profit Leadership Program in the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Western Michigan University and a former Kalamazoo Rotarian.

This program is designed to offer a minor in Nonprofit Leadership to undergraduate students to prepare them for leadership in human service, arts, environmental, and governmental organizations.  Director Maatman went on to explain the objectives of the program and the priorities expected of the students as well as the expectations of the community.
