Here, briefly described, are the committess that have been organized to support
activites, projects, and aspects of our operations. At meetings and in the
community, in our schools and across borders, our committees and associated
projects are at work, bringing Rotary values, contribution, and service to
all they touch.
Please note that each commitee name is a link that will either take you to a
page that provides more detail about committee activities, projects, and other
information, or to a page that allows you to contact the committee itself.

Club Service "A"
Bulletin
-
Produce the bulletin for members, which includes information about upcoming
activities at the club and district level, programs for future meetings,
highlights of previous meeting(s).

Report other news about local Rotarians and Rotary International.
Program
- Arrange all weekly programs with attention to special Rotary dates and
significant community needs.
- Perform appropriate introductions
- Provide audio-visual equipment as needed for presentations.
- Make arrangements for a maximum of one guest of the speaker to be hosted
by the club.
Club Contributions
- Develop criteria for use of Kalamazoo Rotary Charity funds to support local
activities.
- Recommend expenditure of funds to the Board of Directors. (Recommendations
may come from requests of 501(c)(3) organizations or from need
identified by Kalamazoo Rotary.)
Fund Development
- Review the current program of "voluntary contributions" and recommend
changes.
- Identify methods of raising additional funds for local or international
projects.
- Work with the Community Projects Committee to determine methods of
financing the local Rotary Centennial Project.
Internet Services
- Construct a website to inform the public and our membership about
club resources, projects, programs, and plans.
- Help other committees within Rotary to build the website so that all
aspects of club activities are covered.
- Maintain the website so that it continues to provide accurate information
- Provide and encourage related efforts (e.g., mailing lists, writing and reporting) to help reflect all club activities in our online presence.
Club Service "B"
Classification
- Determine an appropriate classification for each prospective member.
- Prepare a list of all relevant classifications and which members belong to
each.
- Work with the Membership Development Committee to inform the club which
classifications have a shortage of members and classifications that
are nearly full.
Membership
- Assist the board in reviewing the character, business or professional
standing, community standing, and general eligibility of all persons
proposed for membership.
Membership Development
- Develop plans to retain current members and recruit additional qualified
members.
- Review the classification survey and seek to identify new members from
categories with only a few members.
- Monitor attendance and work to rectify situations that may be resulting in
unsatisfactory attendance.
Parliamentarian
- Answer questions of correct parliamentary procedure when needed.
Rotary Information
- Provide information to prospective members about the responsibilities of
Rotary membership.
- Conduct at least two "fireside chats" each year to orient new
members.
- Work with the Bulletin Committee to provide significant information from
Rotary International to all club members.
Club Business
Meeting Site
- Communicate with the Radisson Hotel regarding the meeting facility and meal.
- Notify the Radisson of any special needs related to unusual programs that
may have larger than normal attendance or that will cause the club
to not meet on a designated day.
Sergeant-at-Arms
- Check the meeting room prior to each meeting to see that flags, banners,
Rotary bell, gavel, and overhead for songs are all in place.
- Greet all members and guests, collect weekly meal charges, ensure members
fill out guest card and sign roster for all guests, and deliver collected funds.
- Collect all fines and happy bucks during the meeting and deliver, along with
cash reconciliation sheet, to the treasurer at end of meeting.
- Deliver attendance sheets to the administrative secretary at the end of the
meeting.
- Between meetings, survey local media for members’ pictures for appropriate
fines at meeting.
Sergeant-at-Arms Schedule
Music
- Lead the singing of our National Anthem at the beginning of the meeting.
- Lead the singing of one or two songs during the meeting.
Table Hosts
- Arrive early at the weekly meeting to welcome visiting Rotarians at the
door.
- Sit with visiting Rotarians during lunch.
- Introduce visiting Rotarians to the club during the meeting.

Club History
- Maintain an ongoing collection of the history of Kalamazoo Rotary.
- Inform the board of directors of the status of the historical archives.
International Service
Rotary Foundation
- Serve as the central source of information for programs sponsored by the
Rotary Foundation.
- Assist other committees in understanding the opportunities available from
the Rotary Foundation and the District 6360 Foundation.
- Educate the overall membership of work being done by the Rotary Foundation
and District 6360 Foundation.
- Encourage higher levels of financial support for both the Annual Fund and the
Permanent Fund.
- Develop a program to increase the number of Rotary Foundation Sustaining
Members and Paul Harris Fellows.
World Community Service
- Review possible projects available for funding by the Rotary Foundation.
- Make recommendations to the board of directors regarding what projects
Kalamazoo Rotary should pursue
- Develop a long range plan for continued involvement with Casa Amparo.
Rotary Scholars
- Become familiar with the programs, including deadlines for application, for
Ambassadorial Scholars, Rotary World Peace Scholars, and University
Teachers.
- Educate the board of directors on these three programs.
- Recommend a level of participation for Kalamazoo Rotary.
International Youth Projects
- Recruit host families for inbound Rotary International Youth Exchange
Program and work with Kalamazoo high schools to identify potential
outbound students.
- Promote other programs that assist young people internationally.
Polio Eradication
- Continue to promote contributing to Rotary International’s Polio
Eradication program until we reach a level of 100% participation or
non-contributors have specifically declined participation.
- Continue to educate the club about the status of world-wide efforts.
Community Service
Public Relations
- Develop a public relations plan that incorporates both local and
international Rotary programs and projects.
- Implement the plan throughout the year to continually improve the positive
image of Rotary in the community.
New Generations
- Review available information on Rotaract and Interact programs.
- Recommend a plan for implementation of one or both if appropriate.
Blood Drive
- Coordinate and encourage support of blood drive(s) in conjunction with the
American Red Cross.
Tree of Lights
- Coordinate annual holiday bell ringing to support the Salvation Army.
Community Projects
- Evaluate community needs and recommend local projects for involvement of
Kalamazoo Rotary.
- Coordinate club involvement in a project to celebrate the centennial of Rotary
International in 2005.
Special Services
Red Rose Award
- Annually assess the relevance of continuing this award program.
- Gather nominations and submit a recommendation to the board in April.
- Coordinate the presentation of the award in early June.
Arts
- Educate club members about the variety of arts activities and organizations
in the area.
- Identify potential opportunities for Rotary involvement and support of the
arts.
- Provide leadership for identified activities.
Sports
- Publicize and organize participation in District 6360 sports activities.
Battle Creek Liaison
- Attend meetings of Battle Creek Rotary and encourage attendance at our
meetings by Battle Creek Rotarians.
- Coordinate two joint meetings per year with Battle Creek Rotary.
Family Involvement
- Determine how to make Kalamazoo Rotary activities more inclusive of Rotarians
families.
- Identify widows and widowers of Kalamazoo Rotarians and determine ways to
include them in activities.
- Establish a system to keep a current list of widows and widowers.
- Coordinate all Rotary social activities, including the annual night at the Barn
Theater.
Vocational Service
Group Study Exchange
- Educate the club and solicit nominations for possible members of an outbound
Group Study Exchange team.
- Contact the other nine clubs in Kalamazoo County to recruit members for this
committee.
- Coordinate the schedule of activities and secure host housing for visiting GSE
teams.
